Libby and Josh didn’t have look too far to find their perfect wedding venue—it was waiting for them in their family’s backyard.
“Josh’s sister and brother-in-law own the property that we were married at,” says Libby. “We looked at different venue options in northern Michigan, but we decided nothing compared to this one. We were married in the backyard and held our reception in the finished barn.”
Ann Travis of Ann Travis Events, who led the planning and design of the wedding, worked with the couple to create a classic and romantic feel. Photography was provided by Jean Smith of Jean Smith Photography.
Sheer white chiffon draping, French blue linens, and crystal chandeliers transformed the barn into an elegant reception space. A custom seating chart hung from a handmade arch fashioned with leather twine. The tablescape featured patterned napkins mirrored on various paper goods throughout the reception.
The wedding cake, made by a family friend, featured an especially treasured detail: an heirloom wedding cake topper, originally belonging to Josh’s maternal grandparents.
“Our favorite moment was during the reception, when everyone was dancing and mingling, and the DJ announced that the first shuttle had arrived to take guests back to the hotel, and everyone started booing!” says Libby. “It made us so happy to know that everyone was having just as much fun as we were, and that they didn’t want the night to end. I had a feeling of ‘We did it!’ in that moment.”
