One thing’s for sure: You won’t lack for stunning picture opportunities at the 1800s-era Blodgett Wedding Barn in Schoolcraft, Michigan. Try the traditional red barn as a backdrop for you and your wedding party, or gather your entire new family on the wraparound porch for a group photo. And the sunflower garden? You’ll want to take every and any photo you can there. Swoon.
But this barn wedding venue, part of a family farm and refurbished in 2016, doesn’t offer couples just album-worthy settings. Learn more about why the Blodgett Wedding Barn is quickly becoming a go-to for Michigan couples, with its choice of multiple ceremony locations, vintage chic decor included in its wedding packages, and more.
What is the history of your venue?
This authentic rustic barn was built in the 1800s and is located on our family farm that we have owned since 1996. Our 10 children and 9 (to date) grandchildren have loved romping around the farm and exploring the barns over the years. This particular barn was refurbished in 2016 for our daughter’s wedding, and after deciding to open it up to the public, we added an addition which includes two handicapped bathrooms, a kitchen, two dressing rooms and a sitting area.
What is your capacity?
Do you offer a ceremony location?
We offer a few different choices for your ceremony. We have a rustic arch in the middle of the fruit orchard for a focal point for your vows. We also have a portable arch that can be placed overlooking an alfalfa field with a garden of sunflowers alongside.
What is included in your wedding packages?
We offer a lot, including handcrafted wood farm tables, lace and/or burlap table runners, farm tables for cake and buffet, antique-style white chairs for both the ceremony and reception, and various rustic decor. There’s also a portable sound system with mic for vows, and a portable sound system to be used with a smartphone for music. Your event staffing includes an on-site coordinator and parking attendant. In addition, late summer and fall weddings have access to the sunflowers for table decorations, and all wedding packages include an engagement photo shoot.
What makes your venue special?
Our handcrafted farm tables are unique to our venue—although new, they are made to look old to match the barn. Our antique-style chairs are also a unique feature. The garden of sunflowers is also a benefit that you won’t find elsewhere. The large farmhouse porch is perfect for family photos.
What is your favorite moment from one of your weddings?
My favorite moment is seeing all the members of a large family, from children to spouses to grandchildren, gather on our large farmhouse porch for a family photo.
What is your best advice for couples planning their wedding?
Delegate all responsibilities for the day of the wedding so that you don’t need to do anything but enjoy the day.
Are there any vendors you would recommend to couples planning a wedding at your venue?
We make recommendations, but you are free to choose any licensed caterer and licensed bartender so that you can make the choices that best fit your budget.
